GSA-Competition Winners March 2015

James & Kerry

James and I arrived in Gotzens after a long journey to a very comfortable hotel and the start of an awesome week of skiing.

The snow in Axamer Lizum was great and we were very lucky to have a few beautiful funny days on slopes. We did a day trip to the Stubai Glacier which was awesome with a wider variety of slopes and a great vibe!

We would like to thank SkiAustria for the amazing prize and everything it included - it was a brilliant experience and we had a blast!

The Hotel was super, they were so helpful and friendly and their food was excellent , the only

problem is trying to fit into our own clothes!!

Your arrangements was top of the world, everything was as you said it would be and even better.

Our motto for the tour : “ We can ski, we just can’t stop!!!”

Hope to see you in Cape Town! Will ask the kids to put on facebook : Most funniest skiing in Ischgl !

Hi Thomas,

We had an awesome time in Ellmau!  Ski Austria did a fantastic job of making sure that we had everything we needed from great ski hire (ski boots were brand new) to a stunning hotel to the most amazing food – do you also offer weight loss advice after eating all that yummy food?? ☺

Michaela and Andreas went out of their way to help us with things like ski school for some, snowboarding lessons for others and even took us on a skiing adventure one day, which we really appreciated.

All in all a great time was had by all and we highly recommend Ski Austria and Ellmau.

I’ll send you some pic’s on a separate email.

Dear Thomas and Michaela

Thanks for the email, wow, 10 days…… it feels like yesterday that we were there.

I must say that our holiday in Ellmau was better than words can describe, we absolutely LOVED our holiday and the kids can’t wait to ski again.

From start to finish, everything ran smoothly for us, the bus trip from Salzburg was on time, our welcome at the Hochfilzer was fantastic and Michaela and Andreas were the most fantastic hosts we have had. Michaela and Andreas saw to our every need and more and I will HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend your group to our mates. We loved the hotel, Ingrid and her staff were brilliant (maybe one bar man was a bit grumpy) but from the cleaners to the waitresses we were so well taken care of. Our two rooms were great, the one we took was renovated and it was bright and homely. The bed may have been a bit too soft for me but I soon got used to it. The Food was to die for, and I can’t think of anything that was served that wasn’t gobbled up and enjoyed with delight especially after a long day on the slopes. The wellness centre was also a hightight and we spent many hours relaxing in the outside jacuzzi in the snow.

The ski hire shop and staff were great and our private instructor was brilliant. Our two girls loved the ski school and three days was the perfect time for them to gain their skills and then promptly beat us down the slopes (even the red) for the next three days).

Our day skiing with Michaela was a highlight and Andreas was so fantastic with Catherine on day 2 of skiing with the blue slope that turned out to be more “purple” and he was so patient that after that she was skiing down all the reds with such glee.

We enjoyed the evening entertainment and the ski show was also a highlight as well as the cook offs with Ingrid and Michaela making “kaiserschmell” ( ??? spelling) ( Please send your recipe Michaela……)

I could go on for ever but, I really enjoyed Austria way more than Livigno and besides the difference in ski slopes and the village, I have to thank Michaela for making it a special time and being a first class hostess

I look forward to catching up one day and I will send the iMovie that Josie made of the hotel in a separate email.

We would so love to go skiing again so lets hope this year is a good year for all.

May 2015 be a great one for all of you.

warm regards

Michelle and Ross

Achamer Family 27/12 - 03/01/2015

Hi Thomas,

Thanks to you and the rest of the Ski Austria Team for a great holiday.

We have been very fortunate with the weather as it started to snow on the 26/12 and didn’t stop until 4 days later. Than 2 days of Sun with a wonderful snowy Winterlandscape as the background to our activities on the slope. Really lucky, don’t want to think what would have happened without the snow. It set the stage for experiencing a quaint Austrian Village in all its glory – Ellmau was ideal for us.

Accommodation: Pension Claudia was ok for us and met our expectations. Our room, for 3 x individuals, was a bit small and with all the luggage cases in there it did feel cramped. We enjoyed the position of Pension Claudia as from day 3 onwards we were able to ski right to the front of the Pension. The breakfast and its offerings were great and provided us with the necessary daily energy to get going. If there would be any negative, than it would be the fact that you have to walk to the bus station and than take the ride to Hartkaiserbahn before embarking on our daily skiing activities – especially during this time the buses were extremely crowded and it was not fun being squeezed in there like a sardine.

Dinner: No complaints regarding dinner. Friendly staff at Hochfilzer and good quality food made this a daily event to look forward to. The walk from and to Pension Claudia was no problem at all, in fact enjoyed walking in the powder snow and the kids had their fun. If there is one small negative, than it would be the fact that we had to choose our main dinner at breakfast – I understand the reasons and logistics behind it, but choosing your dinner on a fully loaded breakfast belly felt uncomfortable.

Skiing: The skiing was great due to fresh powder. The runs were clearly marked and nicely prepared for the morning runs. The panoramic views of the “Wilder Kaiser” on Day 5 and 6 were spectacular and presented the the area in all its splendour – the only negative was the amount of people during this time of the year. We did expect busy slopes, but this, at times, was very hectic.

Equipment Rental: No problem – professional Service and the equipment itself was ok. My wife needed to change her boots 3 times, no problem at all.

Transfer Munich – Ellmau – Munich: Professional and on time. It took us 3hours each way due to weather conditions and peak season traffic congestion.

Additional: The tobogganing on the last evening was enjoyed by everybody – great fun and a fitting end to our holiday.

All in all a wonderful experience with wonderful memories to be treasured.

Best Regards

Hi Thomas,

Finally…. My feedback (for what its worth).

Firstly, we had a fantastic time.  I must compliment Michaela, Ingrid from the hotel and Andreas.  They were all so warm and welcoming and gave the impression that nothing was too much trouble.

Again, the food, staff and atmosphere at Hochfilzer was great.  I see some of the rooms have been upgraded and they have done a great job.

Andreas took the kids out snowboarding and they had a ball.  Micheala skied with us the one day and its always nice to go with her.

Andreas took us to get our ski hire when we arrived.  We were sorted pretty quickly.

The only negative was that the apartment wasn’t really a 2 bedroomed apartment.  There is a small main room with 2 single beds and a single room that can only fit in 1 bed.  This meant 2 kids sleeping on the pull out sofa in the lounge, so not really conducive to sitting around as a family in the eve.  Also difficult with our family as a sofa bed is not big enough for 2  hulking teenage boys and not ideal to have Lucy sharing with Warwick.  Again, when Lucy goes to sleep, we can’t sit around the lounge.  This is not a big gripe and we managed.  Luckily Lucy slept at the McGregors most of the time.

Thanks for being flexible for fetching from Salszburg and dropping in Munich.  Transfer all on time and went smoothly.

All in all a really fun holiday and I would recommend Ski Austria and Hochfilzer any day.  Much more organised than Italy.

Thanks Thomas and team.

Hello Michaela,

Thank you for your prompt follow-up, I was expecting one because you have a great setup.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Ellmau and your hospitality was fantastic. It was great to meet you and to  see Chris and Andreas. We Love Hotel Hochfilzer and will certainly be back again.

The transfers to and from Munich was spot on time and enjoyable. The drivers were very accommodating and delightful to talk to during the commute.

The Ski School, Ski Hire and ski pass was perfect and we had no hassles at all. What we like about Ski Austria and hotel Hochfilzer is the personal touch and attention to detail as well as the warm family experience. Seeing the owner of the hotel signing Christmas carols to the guests reminded me strongly of my upbringing and I will cherish that forever.

We felt very comfortable with your hospitality and you made our stay a pleasurable one. Ski Austria always had an suitable answer for everything even if it was not related to our reservation. You and your team were always available when required, which is a great asset that  your company carries.

The variety of food in the evenings was great. There was always something new and the afternoon soups were traditional Austrian cuisine, which I love personally.

Our children loved the kids club and of course the swimming pool and Jacuzzi.  Our 3 children can now ski confidently, catch a lift and want to come back for more. They made friends and practiced their German too. They love the snow & hellip;.. as much as we do.

Thank you for an awesome holiday.

See you soon for more……!

Hi Michaela & Thomas,
A big thank you for a wonderful ski holiday during December. It really was a remarkable experience for our whole family & we loved every part of it.  Michaela, it was great meeting you, you guys really delivered what you promised; a well planned ski holiday covering all the necessities. The hotel was great, the transport on time & the ski instructor really helped us a lot. All in all, real value for money.

Thanks for popping in to see if we were ok during the week. We will definitely refer all our friends to Ski Austria, so feel free to use us a reference should you wish. We attach a few pictures to show how much fun we had.

Ben & Melanie Wiese - December 2013

Sending you a big hug from a camp drizzly Cape Town.

Thanks so much for a fantastic holiday

Dear SkiAustria Team

We had a great time in Saalbach and a wonderful holiday & thanks!

Some specific feedback:

Hotel Koenig, The hotel for a three star was great, very friendly and helpful staff and good food. Well located. The family suite was spacious comfortable. If I may be critical I missed the Austrian Xmas feeling at the hotel as there was nothing special. Same goes for new year celebrations. A hotel to recommend to your guests.

Transfers - great.

The town and surroundings. Great atmosphere with lots to do off piste. Great new year celebration. We will be back.

Exceptional, lots of new lifts everything was spot on and the variety (200km of piste) was great. (We were quite fortunate with the weather and ski conditions ( 23/12 – 4/1)

Boris the Saalbach agent

He went out of his way to help and also ensured that we were aware of the happenings in the area.

Last but not least

Air France is not to be recommended!! They lost our luggage for three days and their call centre and ground staff were terrible, unfriendly and non-caring. I had to personally go back to Munich and walk through all the lost luggage (and there were lots!!). At the time I arrived three days later our luggage was there but was not even entered into the system as having arrived in Munich.  Compensation of € 100 is a joke and then then wanted to post the luggage to Saalbach  that on the day before Xmas !!!!

To Michaela a sincere thank you for getting up at 4am driving in the dark in snowy conditions to pick be up in Saalbach at 6am and then all the way to Munich to collect our luggage!!! This was highly appreciated and will be a something that I will pass on to prospective skiers for Austria.

Dana Botha - December 2012

Hi there - our family would like to thank Micaela and Thomas for the very professional and personal service we experienced in arranging an amazing trip to Goetzens in December. Every detail was attended to and we thoroughly enjoyed our week. The hotel and accommodation was fantastic and great value for money (Hotel Edelweiss). I will defintiely mke use of your services again if the opportunity arises and would recommend skiAustria to any group of South Africans who would like a very enjoyable and hassle-free skiing tour.
